Modder ‘Harrisonfog’ has released a remaster mod for the classic 2005 Star Wars Battlefront 2. This mod overhauls the game’s visuals and maps, and is available for download right now.
Harrisonfog’s goal is to achieve the best possible visuals in the 2005 version of Star Wars Battlefront 2, and make realistic maps for the game. When he finishes remastering the default maps, the modder intends to make original high quality maps for it.
Those interested can download the “Reshade” mod from here. This mod will make your game more realistic by normalizing color saturation, improving game lighting, sharpening the image, and using a more subtle bloom.
The HD maps can be downloaded from here. Right now, the modder has re-designed and added new HD textures to the Geonosis, Hoth, Tatooine and Kamino maps.
In order to showcase these mods, Harrisonfog released the following screenshots.
Enjoy!
Battlefront is on the brain. There's still months to go before DICE’s Frostbitten reboot of grand-scale Star Wars-fare hits monitors, but the (carefully choreographed) bits seen so far are exciting stirrings of trading hot laser, lightsaber, and explodey death in both familiar and new worlds. Ten years has been quite the wait.
Beyond jetpacking Rebel rocket troopers and anti-aliased Endor tree bark lies a fleet of expectations. A smooth launch and low bug count wouldn’t hurt, but hey, we’re PC gamers—let’s toss modding support right on top of the pile. While EA thinks about that (”don’t hold your breath,” says my Force-powered 8 ball), 2005’s Battlefront 2 still hosts a small but fiercely dedicated community and a legion of intricate mods. If that’s not enough worthiness for your Steam library, it’s also stupidly cheap as of writing (until May 7) at $3/£2, so picking up the base game is an inexpensive first step. GameSpy is no more, but external lobby programs such as GameRanger and GameMaster keep multiplayer breathing.
If you’re just looking for the grand slam of what Battlefront 2’s mods offer, consider installing the Conversion Pack, its patch, and the unofficial 1.3 game update. That combo provides a sizable content boost to most modes with minimal deviation from stock army-on-army gameplay, but plenty more choices await your consideration in this gallery. As a rule of thumb, keep the 1.3 update installed when configuring mods, as many of them won’t work without it.
While it seems you can never go wrong with Star Wars these days, apparently Electronic Arts (EA) has. Star Wars: Battlefront II released on Nov. 17, just under one month ahead of Star Wars: The Last Jedi. All reports are that the game is visually stunning, but it comes with one major problem: pay-to-play.
Although it’ll only cost you $60 to go pick up a copy of the game, gamers will find it difficult to unlock even relatively basic Star Wars characters such as Luke Skywalker or Darth Vader without forking over more money. Needless to say, fans are not too happy about the revelation. Because of all the problems with Battlefront II, we took a look back in Star Wars video game history at the best of all time.
10. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed![]()
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed | Lucasfilm
Released in 2008, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed was an extremely welcome addition to the Star Wars universe. With three years since Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith and no new films on the horizon, fans turned to The Force Unleashed to get their fix.
The story followed Galen Marek, whose father was murdered by Darth Vader when he was just a boy. Vader then took Marek (or Starkiller) in as his secret Sith apprentice, and the game follows his mission to the planet Raxus Prime to hunt down a Jedi Master. The gameplay is good, but what really sets The Force Unleashed apart from other games is all the cool Force abilities you can play with.
9. Star Wars: Empire at War
The 2006 real-time strategy game Star Wars: Empire at War takes place between Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: A New Hope. You could play as either the Empire or the Rebellion, and the Black Sun and Prince Xizor (from the novel and game Shadows of the Empire) also appear. The objective is to gather resources through control of planets, and to win battles both on the ground and in outer space.
One extra fun thing about Empire at War is that if you play as the Empire and win, you get to see an alternate universe ending to A New Hope where Grand Moff Tarkin uses the Death Star to blow up the rebel base on Yavin IV.
8. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II – The Sith Lords
Knights of the Old Republic II | Lucasfilm
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II – The Sith Lords was a critical success on the back of one of the most popular Star Wars video games ever created. Because of the nature of how the original KOTOR ended, KOTOR II allowed you to decide which outcome you wanted to follow at the start of the new game.

The setting, no matter what path you choose, is that the Jedi have been absolutely decimated by the Sith and are in dire straits. The Republic is on the verge of collapse, and it’s up to you to save it. This game features a ton of characters, including new characters such as Kreia, Mira, and Atton Rand.
7. Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga
If you’re more into familiar Star Wars stories than branching out into new ones, the Lego Star Wars series has exactly what you want. Specifically, The Complete Saga is everything that you would assume; it’s the ability to play in any chapter of the Star Wars saga. But of course, there is the one hitch – you’re a Lego person.
The game is a ton of fun, whether it’s flying around Hoth on a Lego snowspeeder and shooting at AT-ATs or trying to navigate your way off the Trade Federation ship with Obi-Wan Kenobi and Qui-Gon Jinn.
6. Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire
Shadows of the Empire | Lucasfilm
Among the early novels written about the Star Wars universe, quite possibly the most popular was Shadows of the Empire. Written by Steve Perry (in collaboration with George Lucas), the story covers the events following Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Lando Calrissian, Darth Vader, and new characters Dash Rendar and Prince Xizor of the Black Sun during the post-Empire Strikes Back, pre-Return of the Jedi time period. The novel was released in 1996, and alongside it a video game of the same name on the Nintendo 64 platform.
Battlefront Ii 2005 Mods
Shadows of the Empire is a first-person shooter from the aspect of Rendar, first being charged with escaping from Hoth, then tracking down the bounty hunters on the tail of Han Solo, and fighting to recover the stolen plans for the second Death Star. At a time when Return of the Jedi was 13 years old and Star Wars: The Phantom Menace was three years down the road, Shadows of the Empire was the game (and novel) that fans needed.
The book now comes with 5 new audio CDs enclosed in vinyl sleeves and bound to the book’s inside back cover. This new third edition has been given streamlined packaging. In recent years, Barron’s American Accent Traininghas gained wide respect as a self-teaching program, but more and more speech trainers, teachers, and speech therapists report that they are also using it as a valuable teaching tool in their speech classes. 5. Super Empire Strikes Back
Again from the mid-1990s, the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) released a trio of Super Star Wars games from 1992-1994. Much like with the original trilogy, Super Empire Strikes Back was the best one. This is a classic ’90s SNES game, with all the 12-bit graphics and side-scrolling fun that you would expect.
In the game, the player moves up each level and follows along with the plot from the movie. You could play as the various characters, switching between Luke Skywalker and either Han Solo or Chewbacca, depending on the situation. The game ends with a battle between Luke and Vader on Cloud City, which was hard but not too hard to beat. Bonus points to this game, because when you died and chose to not try again, Yoda would say, “That is why you fail.”
4. Star Wars: Rogue Squadron 2 – Rogue Leader
Rogue Squadron 2: Rogue Leader | Lucasfilm
While Rogue Squadron 2 is really just an update and expansion of the original Rogue Squadron game, it still makes the list. The graphics are improved over the first version, and the missions are everything that a Star Wars fan dreams about as a child. As you might assume from the title, you’re playing as Luke Skywalker’s Rogue Squadron X-wing unit (often referred to as Red Squadron early in the films).
Part of what makes this game great are the levels that are pulled straight from the movies. Missions include fighting against the Death Star at the Battle of Yavin, the Battle of Hoth, a raid on Bespin, and two different missions during the Battle of Endor. There are even some secret levels that include flying through the asteroid field.
3. Star Wars: Jedi Knight 2 – Jedi Outcast
Another in a long line of early 2000s Star Wars games is Jedi Outcast. This game fell in a line of games following the character Kyle Katarn. The time period in the game is shortly after the fall of the Empire, and one of the early missions involves Mon Mothma charging Katarn with investigating the remains of an Imperial base.

Jedi Outcast is a first-person shooter, as many from this era of video gaming are, but also received rave reviews for the advanced lightsaber dueling. Cool powers in this game include Force lightning and jumping long distances.
2. Star Wars: Battlefront 2 (2005)
Star Wars: Battlefront 2 | Lucasfilm
Before there was Battlefront II, there was Star Wars: Battlefront 2 back in 2005. Much like the current game, the original Battlefront 2 came as a sequel – and this time, it was head and shoulders above its predecessor. One major difference is that the game was released after Revenge of the Sith, allowing for aspects of the film to be involved.
Star Wars Battlefront 2 2005 Best Mods 1
Battlefront 2 upgraded graphics and gameplay, sure, but it also added a ton of characters, vehicles, and other stuff that made it an absolute joy to play. The ability to play as a part of the Empire’s 501st Legion was really cool as well, and the story runs all the way from diplomacy on Naboo to the battle on Hoth.
1. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
If you polled a decent number of Star Wars gamers, you’d probably come up with a lot of similar answers for No. 1 on this list: Knights of the Old Republic. We’ve already listed the sequel game to KOTOR, which was a critical success, but nothing will top the original. This game followed the events as the happened between the Jedi Order and the Sith in the Republic, nearly 4,000 years prior to A New Hope.
KOTOR is a role-playing game (RPG) and allows players to choose which side they want to play for. Popular characters include Darth Revan, Darth Malak, and Bastila Shan. The story line from the game has remained popular enough with Star Wars fans that there is actually a large segment hoping that it will be developed into the newly-announced Rian Johnson trilogy.
